|Mary C. Snyder McCarthy, of Lansdale and formerly of Chalfont, PA, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at St. Mary Manor, Lansdale. She was 83.
She was the wife of eight years of Richard F. McCarthy and was preceded in death by her first husband, the late James E. Snyder, in 1993.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Emma (Settle) Gruber. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Hubert High School for Girls, Philadelphia.
A homemaker, Mrs. McCarthy served as the Assistant to the Tax Collector of the Hilltown Township Tax Office from 1988 until retiring in 2002.
Mrs. McCarthy was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hilltown, PA, where she enjoyed working at the Church Bazaars for many years.
An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed playing word and number games including cryptograms and Sudoku puzzles.
Surviving with her husband are four sons, James E. Snyder III and his wife Donna, of Telford, PA, Peter A. Snyder and his wife Elizabeth, of Charlotte, NC, Stephen F. Snyder and his wife Elizabeth, of Fairfax, VA, and Christopher J. Snyder, of Oakland, CA; a daughter, Margaret L. Avey and her husband Scott, of Matthews, NC ; two stepsons, Michael G. McCarthy and his wife Mary Ann, of Doylestown, PA, and Kevin G. McCarthy, of New York, NY; a stepdaughter, Catharine M. Albertson and her husband Edward, of Bethlehem, PA; 15 grandchildren; a brother, the Rev. Anthony P. Gruber, of Niantic, CT; and a sister, Antonette Wynn, of Warminster, PA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Plummer, in October 2012.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Route 152 & Broad Street, Hilltown, where family and friends may call from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haitian Ministries, 199 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.
